Wellness programs in the work place are a perk that is more than just a perk. With more companies offering consumer driven health plans (CDHP’s), more of the cost and health decisions are in the hands on the employee and with that, comes responsibility for ones own health. Healthy employees are more productive, and cost employers fewer health care dollars.
“More American workers recognize the reward derived from participating in workplace wellness programs, according to a recent survey conducted by The Principal. In fact, 62 percent of workers, up from 55 percent in 2011, believe workplace wellness activities are successful in improving their health and reducing health risks.”
“In addition to the 62 percent who believe wellness programs improve health, the survey found that:
- 51 percent feel that wellness benefits encourage them to work harder and perform better,
- 59 percent say they have more energy to be productive at work; and,
- Nearly half (45 percent) agree that it would encourage them to stay in their current employment situation.”
